Central students love to express their awesome school spirit! Mrs. Alford’s middle and high school art classes contributed work on an amazing mural. This wonderful piece of art has taken over 20 students and 2 months to accomplish! The mural incorporates Central’s extracurricular activities such as electives–band, art, drama–and sports–basketball, soccer, volleyball, and golf. Even through the obstacle of Covid-19, these hard-working students have prevailed to make this incredible piece of art happen. It is now completed and displayed on a wall in the gym for everyone to see and enjoy.
Forensics
Forensics class is a new elective here at Central. It is the first time this class has been offered. In this class students learn how to gain information in criminal case files. There are a lot of new students that joined Mr. Swinney’s elective because they thought it sounded interesting. If you are interested in criminal justice or law enforcement, forensics should be one of your elective options next year. This elective could help prepare you for your future career.
Mr. West
Our academic department has received a new addition to CBCS! This is Mr. West’s first opportunity at teaching. Education definitely runs in the West family. He is 25 years old and his wife will be expecting a baby boy mid-April. They plan to name him Everett David West. He was called by God to be in Youth ministry then decided to take the path of spreading the gospel a different way. Mr. West currently teaches 6-12 th grade history. History isn’t Mr. West’s only hobby, but he also enjoys soccer and ultimate frisbee. Mr.West may be a new teacher, but the students really enjoy his class, plus he has a huge dry erase map that he enjoys using!
Spirit Week
What’s a better way to express school spirit than dedicating an entire week to it?!?!
Central dedicates one week of every school year to do just that!
This year Spirit Week took place during the week of January 11th-15th. Each day had a selected theme.
On Monday, we dressed up to show pride for our country, ‘Merica!
On Tuesday, the theme was “pajama” day, a day of chillin’ and grillin’.
On Wednesday, students dressed up as teachers and teachers dressed up as students.
On Thursday, each grade was given a class color.
On Friday, Central shared their spirit in unison by dressing up in maroon and white.
Friday ended with a pep rally which included announcing the boys and girls basketball teams along with a banana pass challenge and office chair race. The outside events included a water relay, egg toss, hungry hippo, and obstacle course.
Spirit Week 2021!
2021 started off with a fun dress-down week. From coming to school in your comfiest pajamas to playing fun games with your classmates. Part of the fun even included getting bombarded with eggs! Each class got to pick teams for each outside game. Spirit week did get a little competitive with Hungry, Hungry Hippo! This game involved running to find the foam balls within a sea of footballs, wiffle balls, baseballs, etc. For those with good agility, the obstacle course was perfect. Not only were there outside games, but there were fun inside games too: pushing your teacher across the gym floor on a rolling chair and even wrapping a classmate in toilet paper. It all came down to the trophy that all the classes were fighting for . . . the Spirit Stick!
The Lady Lion of Lunch
Have you ever wondered how the food at Central tastes so good? You could ask Mrs. Wall. She makes the best food of all time: yummy spaghetti, chicken and yellow rice, delicious quesadillas, and the extra special Thanksgiving meal! If it has nothing to do with our weekly fast food places, she has her eye on something delicious and out of this world. Mrs. Wall organizes the lunches she’s going to prepare a month ahead of time. When we asked Mrs. Wall who inspires her to cook, of course she answered that it was “the kids.” She says that because they inspire her to do the best of her abilities, it makes her happy to see the students satisfied. Mrs. Wall and the other staff at Central do the best and their hardest to make us appreciate how much effort they put into the food.
The Flying Freshmen
Our amazing freshmen class had the opportunity of going to iFLY next to Top Golf in Brandon back in December. This field trip really gave them the chance to understand how physical science works. Through the motion of “flying,” gravity and mechanics made sense. The 9th grade class had such a blast and they experienced something like never before. Even Mrs. Newell had a fun time flying. It was a great field trip . . . one they will never forget.
2020 Christmas Party!
This past Saturday, the seniors hosted a fund-raiser Christmas party. There were many kid-friendly activities to do including a nerf war, bouncy house, craft table, soccer, and a movie! They showed The Chronicles of Narnia outside while everyone ate. They had pizza, cookies, cupcakes, chips, and soda. The craft table included ornament making and fun Christmas necklaces. Mrs. Newell plans to have the nerf war and the bouncy house again next year. The Christmas party is definitely something to look forward to next year!
The Best Month of the Year
December is one of the most important months of the year. Our Lord and Savior was born on December 25th, Christmas Day. Without the birth of Christ we would be in a terrible place. Without Him, we are nothing; but with Christ how can we not admire Him and do our best for Him? The world’s view of Christmas is very different. Most people would say that it is about getting presents and spending time with family, but does Jesus ever come to mind? Christians should always and only think about Jesus 24/7 because He means everything to us. God bless you all, and have an amazing December!
