If you like to read and discuss books (while eating snacks), Book Club might be something for you next year. Not only do they read books during class, but they also have macaroni baking competitions. So far, they have read Wonder, The Western Games, Jurassic Park, The Art of War, and Animal Farm. They usually start a new book every 2 weeks and set goals for their reading. This elective is run by Miss Portervint; her wonderful assistant Emma Alonso helps out as well. They like to include some Christian books in their reading, but they don’t always read just Christian books. The age bracket is 9th-12th grade. Many of the returning students plan on taking this elective again next year. There are 2 seniors in Book Club, and they both said that they are happy with this elective. If you have an interest for next year, make sure to keep in touch because Miss Portervint is thinking of making it a girls only elective.
